It is with sadness that we announce the passing of life long Kahshe Laker, Steve Wild, on May 16, 2026, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Steve and his partner Hayley were the proud owners of one of the oldest cottages on the lake, the Twin Cottages, also known as “Wild Life.” Steve came from a large extended family whose ancestors were among the early cottage families on the lake and whose roots at the Twin Cottages spanned generations. Steve eventually became the steward of the cottages, and he and Hayley spent many years lovingly restoring the vintage property while preserving its natural history and charm.

Steve was an active and passionate member of the lake association. Steve served as a director from approx. 2016 to 2022 and held many roles such as Vice-President, President and supporting role as Past President. Steve’s energy and enthusiasm for Kahshe were ever present. During his tenure, he led and supported many important initiatives, including renegotiating the Nagaya Beach lease with the Town of Gravenhurst to ensure many years of continued enjoyment for the community, organizing a volunteer team to run the beloved Regatta and maintain the beach, introducing the Love Your Lake program, and forever advocating with Town Council for improved dock signage and by-law enforcement,  among other things.

Steve had a zest for life. He loved sailing, globetrotting to warm destinations such as Costa Rica, gin and tonics, saunas and his best pal Digby, was always by his side.

Steve’s dedication to the lake community, his respect for its history, and his commitment to preserving its future will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
