President's Update May 24 Weekend

Welcome back! The long-awaited opening weekend for many KBLA members is finally here! As we all tackle the familiar tasks that mark the start of the cottage season, I’d like to share a few important reminders:
Rockmarkers
The lighted towers marking the main channel travel routes have now been installed.
Please Note
- The two lighted towers east of Burnt Island, which mark the shortcut to Grants Bay, are not in their correct locations.
Please avoid boating in this area and do not navigate between these two towers until further notice. - When turning to Rockhaven from the main east-west channel, stay wide of the lighted tower marking that turn.
The spherical marker balls will be installed as volunteers are able.
Water Access Garbage Collection
For water-access cottagers, lakeside pickup at Rockhaven begins Sunday, May 18th, from 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm.
The District now requires clear garbage bags.
- You may bring two clear bags, each of which can contain two small privacy bags.
- Green garbage bags will still be accepted at transfer stations until January 1, 2026.
More information can be found here.
Beach
A big thank-you to the volunteers who cleared brush at Nagaya Beach following the recent ice storm. Please use caution at the beach this month, as further cleanup is still underway.
KBLA Volunteer Positions
With our AGM scheduled for Saturday, July 5th, now is a great time to consider joining a KBLA Committee. Our long-time Treasurer is stepping down—if you’re interested in the role or want to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
Also, please make sure you nominate the Volunteer of the year for 2025 here.
