
KBLA Members Only Survey Responses Fall 2025
In late fall 2025, KBLA conducted a survey to gather insights on member concerns and interests, receiving 57 responses. We greatly appreciate the feedback, which will shape our efforts and funding for 2026. Below are the key takeaways.
Environmental and Safety Issues
The highest average importance scores are concentrated on issues related to the environment, water quality, and on-water safety infrastructure, indicating these are the most critical areas for member focus and resource allocation. Water quality is the most important focus area, with an average importance score with 70% of the respondents. If combining the total of most and very Important, it ranks second with a total of 97%. Rock markers are the second highest priority from a most Important ranking, but combined with very important, together it ranks first with a total of 98%.
Representing Kahshe Lake with the Town of Gravenhurst ranks third with 76% (most and very important). Wake management and maintaining the historic charm of the lake, both rank fourth with an overall importance score (most and very important) of 73%.
High Perceived Membership Value
A strong majority of members (84%) feel the KBLA provides value for their membership, which suggests the current efforts align with member expectations. Many showed appreciation to the KBLA volunteers for their efforts.
Arts and Craft Show
There is a clear preference among respondents for bringing back the Arts and Craft Show (85%), which suggests a strong interest in community social events featuring local artisans.
General Feedback
Boating and Water Safety
- Concerns were raised regarding wake boats, personal watercrafts, and the need for more OPP presence on Kahshe Lake to enforce boating safety. There were also concerns about impaired driving on the lake.
Environmental Concerns
- Feedback highlighted the need to encourage people to avoid lawns between cottages and the shoreline, address the green-blue algae situation through education on what people can do to prevent it from occurring, and inspect and remove debris from the plug dam at the south end of Grants Bay. There was also concern about encouraging development on the lake due to its potential detriment to lake quality.
Infrastructure and Access
- There were suggestions to support road access to cottages on the mainland to reduce boat traffic and improve emergency services, and to see the Town of Gravenhurst improve North Kahshe Lake Road. There was also a request to ensure proper public docking for boats and cars.
Communication and Education
- Respondents expressed a desire for improved email communication for upcoming events, more education for residents about garbage and courteous boating rules, understanding where building permit variances information is on the Town of Gravenhurst website, and a need for the association to repost town news. We appreciate the feedback and will focus on doing a better job at directing our membership to these resources on our website.
